GAIUS SUETONIUS TRANQUILLUS (SUETONIUS)

From The Lives of the Caesars

Tiberius in Capri

HAVING RETIRED TO Capri, he contrived a place for private orgies where bevies of girls and boys he'd procured, and those called Spintriae, who were known for kinky practices, would perform threesomes in succession in front of him to kindle his flagging lust. A number of small rooms were fitted out with tablet paintings of voluptuous scenes, erotic sculptures and manuals from Elephantis1, from which the inmates couldn't fail to understand what the emperor wanted. In the woods and groves he also devised places for lovemaking and had both sexes dressed up as Pans and nymphs standing in front of caves and grottoes, so that the whole place became known as Goat Island.
